The Assistants

Boone the Greyhound

Boone is a 5 year old greyhound, retired from the track and adopted through the Northern Lights Greyhound Adoption program. For unknown reasons, Boone never actually ran a race, so he can rightfully claim to have retired undefeated. He and Lisa attended the Manners class at Leader of the Pack Canine Center in Buffalo, which is also where they completed their Delta Pet Partners® training and evaluation. Though he occasionally displays a few seconds of great speed, Boone generally lives up to his breed's couch-potato reputation and his casual, social nature makes him an excellent listener.
Biskit the Pony

Biskit is an 8 year old Quarter Horse type. The Potbellied Palomino Pony was adopted from the Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue Foundation in October of 2008. Due to a neurological disorder, Biskit is not ridden, but is very social and enjoys the opportunity to act as Barn Ambassador whenever Chicago and Rusty will allow it,
Chicago the Paint

Named for his nice white stockings, Chicago is a 13 year old Paint horse who has spent the past 7 years trying to teach Lisa to be a rider and a horsewoman, with just enough success to continue the quest. His size intimidates some, but Chicago is quite good-natured, and friendly to everyone except, occasionally, Biskit, Basil or Mace.
Rusty the Quarter Horse

Rusty is a 30-something Quarter Horse who belongs to Lisa's mom, and keeps order as Head of the Herd. The Everlasting Lesson Horse spent many years teaching hunter/jumper riders at Jonathan Stables before retiring to Four Sticks Farm, where he continues to build confidence in young family members.
Basil the Tuxedo Cat
Basil and Mace are the Four Sticks Farm cats, and though friendly, they take their work as barn cats seriously, and occasionally display a limited consideration for social graces. Neither is a particularly good listener, so their participation in the reading program is mostly cosmetic.
Mace the Striped Cat
